In the particular auction, both 2♣/2♥ show 4+ in the suit and 6-10 TP.

On the other hand 3♣ shows 5+ and 3♥ shows 4+, and both are 10-12 TP.

So likely GIB took 3♣ here as better option for better describing bid and as well a bid staying below other suits which Doubler may bid after the double.

Probably a better approach with such shape could be considered.
