Your methods:
  • weak NT, open majors with 4+ cards;
  • 1m is natural, always 4+;
  • minor suit based, so with 4m and 4M you open 1m;
  • 1N rebid is 15-17, doesn't deny 4-card on this auction;
  • responder can employ checkback Stayman with invitational values to find out more about opener's major suit holdings.

As East you are planning to bid 2 checkback over partner's 1N rebid (15-17), but North scuppers that plan.

Over 2 from North you consider 2 is probably GF, and probably implies longer than .

West's 1N has denied 4-card with you, and if you bid 2 you may end up in 4 in a 4-3 fit with your lovely suit!

What is X now from East? Take out or penalties?

I know the smart people will say "it depends on a agreements", but how do the smart people recommend that we play double here?

What action do you take as East?

I can rebid 2s with 5h and 4s and 3h with 5h and gf.

This is an interesting auction. North didn't have enough to bid 1, but now has enough to bid 2 after opener showed extras?

In general, when the opponents intervene in these auctions, I like to play double as cooperative and value-showing: You're OK with partner leaving it in, and you're also OK with partner pulling. You don't have any other options, but have values so need to find a call.

Just on principle, X should be penalty since this auction does not exist, however it is equally relavent if South were to double instead of pass over 1.

With this hand, I would double.
Yay for the "Ignored Users" feature!

I have enough high cards for game. RHO couldn't act over 1C but now has a 2D bid? I have a balanced hand, so I would just double and worry later about what it means. Partner will (should!) work out that I don't have short high cards in diamonds, because I might just bid 3NT given the vulnerability, so I either have this sort of hand or a trump stack. This sort of hand is more likely.
