From Robot Duplicate #324, 2011-07-05, Hand #6
Robot Description of bid is: 4+S;5- 8421 HCP in S; 13+ total points
I need help. I just don't understand: 1.) the point of the bid 2.) the meaning of the bid 3.) how to respond to the bid.
Are there any other responses other than: Pass or 6♠ ??
I thought I was playing bridge... not Russian Roulette.
Best regards,
Andy_L

GIB is telling you that your side has the strength for slam but he is afraid of the spade suit. In 8421HCP, A=8, K=4, Q=2, J=1. It would be very unusual for you to do anything other than pass or bid 6♠.

The robots seem to like jumping to 5 of a major. What does it mean? I don't know. I guess it gives the robot a warm and fuzzy feeling, sort of like 4NT does to most human bidders.
Take your best guess.

It means exactly the same thing as it would playing with a human: a slam try asking about trump quality. As Bbradley62 has explained, for GIB this shows KJ or worse in trumps. Responding is easy. If you don't have good trumps, pass. If you have good trumps, bid 6M. If you have very good trumps and extra strength, you can bid something in between which would be a naturalish grand slam try. If GIB perpetrated this bid on me (I would prefer 4♦ with this GIB hand), I would probably bid 6♦, since AQJ certainly counts as good trumps and there is a decent chance diamonds will provide enough tricks for the grand.

Reply from "mgoetze" helped me to understand the jump to 5♠. "It means exactly the same thing as it would playing with a human: a slam try asking about trump quality." I get it now. Thanks.
Here's the technical part I still don't understand: Description of GIB 5♠ Bid is ( 4+S, 5- 8421 HCP in S; 13+ total points ).
With GIB's holding why isn't the Description of the GIB 5♠ Bid: ( 4+S, 0- 8421 HCP in S; 13+ total points )?
Opposite South's ♠-spade holding with description as "5- 8421 HCP in S" isn't GIB showing the ♠K?

0 is less than 5 but basically because the programmer is slack with descriptions.

"5- 8421 HCP in S" is read as "five or fewer 8421 HCP in spades". GIB could have ♠K but isn't saying that he does.
