It is impossible to believe in individual autonomy while simultaneously believing in a right to well-being supported by others.

1♠, definitely not 2♠. A-empty is the worst suit to preempt on and R/W are the worst conditions to preempt in.

Agree with gwnn, given the vulnerability I'd bid 1♠ and keep pretty calm later on.

At these colors I just love the auction to go 1♣ (2♠) P (P); X (P) P (P). Of course the parentheses give away that I am a defender. While 1♠ is a logical alternative I prefer to possibly back in the auction with a pass now

I must be getting old, I think I prefer pass to 1♠ by a very slight margin. 2♠ is out though, for reasons stated by gwnn.
