message bug?

I attempted to kibitz a friend playing in a tournament but had access denied (no kibitzers) , I am now watching VG and getting
tournament messages from the TD !

While I'm on this topic, when I am playing in a team match or tournament from time to time I get little white pop up boxes advertising
tournaments - where do these come from and can I turn them off?
