Scoring: IMP

West North East South

 -     -     1    1NT
 Pass  3NT   Pass  Pass
 Pass

I am south and I choose to overcall 1NT! Ok, so free is not the only one whose 1NT overcalls can be light (and in my case here, light and off-shape.. maybe it is a good thing I play raptor NT overcall if I bid like this). At the other table south passed and then forced to 3NT when north balanced with 2.

But the play is the thing. West started a spade to the llow-eiight-queen. I will not get too heavy into which is right, club hook or club to ACE, but you can see quite a different out-come depeniding upon which you play. I played club ACE, my opponent at other table hooked. On club hook, with a careful unblock in hearts, declarer can be held to 3H, 1S, 2D for down three.

Guessing right in clubs, however leads to a three suit squeeze on East. So the position with two clubs to play comes to something like this (EAST has to keep two spades or you win 7C, 3S, and 2 red aces).
Scoring: IMP

West North East South

 -     -     1    1NT
 Pass  3NT   Pass  Pass
 Pass

On the club, east is squeezed. He will let go his diamond, and you do too. Now you lead diamond to the ACE. He still has to keep two spades, so he ptiches a heat. Take heart ace and throw him in with a heart for spade endplay.

beautiful.. as to the hook vs. A, there's no guaranteed entry so i think playing A, K is only real shot

You have almost no realistic way of making the contract if you don't make a lot of tricks.

Playing AK picks up Q or Qx offside, finessing picks up Qxx (but not Qxxx) onside. I think the latter is more likely than the former.

Maybe it is not best to play on straight away.

If you play a towards dummy at trick 2, East will win. Then, he may very well switch to Q. If you read this as a true card, you can place K with West, and so Q is more likely to be with East because of his opening.

You're forgetting the bidding, you miss 16 hcp and RHO opened i think there is much better chance to find the Q of club with him.

This may be off shape, but doesn't look the least bit light to me. Just to check myself, I checked with Kaplan - Rubens

As you can see, they value it as 17.45 and that's not counting the fact that the AQ of spades sits over the spade bidder. One might say that you're at the top of the range!
I tend to lead fourth best - as opposed to the best suit, the second best suit, or the third best suit for our side
