I would bid 3♠ first, I think, before doing something precipitous in the diamond suit.

Only problem with that is that your partner doesn't know that ♠Qx or ♠Jxx is a stopper.

Let's see, 4♦ and after they bid 4♠ I lead the A♣ followed by the 2♦?

True, but at least he will have a good idea that Qxx or Jxxx or A will be a stopper.
Not that 3NT is a sure thing on a spade lead if he holds either of the first two holdings. The opps might still run hearts (or spades with K opposite Jxxx). But they may have a game anyway.

What is the difference between 3♠ and 3NT? Not much I'd say, I think I'll go with a double first, it might come 4♠-Pass-Pass and then I don't know what to do but more isteresting things can come, players are wary of pre-empting 3rd seat opening bids, so this might make it easier for our side.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the ♥3.

3NT!
If LHO is a junior expert, he would never lead a spade, would he?
Of course, goodness knows that if I did that, the layout would be:
The good news is that I would be granted my non-spade-lead wish. The bad news...... well, look and see for yourself.
Really, I'd probably go with 3♠ at the table.

Hi,
I would bid 3D, this does not by pass 3NT and still puts a certain pressure
on the opponents.
At the given colors, 3D is not garbage, although I will certainly make the bid
without the black honors.
Of course if 3S is part of your agreement set - than go ahead, bid it.
But the frequency of this convention occurring on the table is rare, so my advice
to a B/I player would be, not to bother with picking up this convention.
With kind regards
Marlowe
PS: For whats it worth - I dont play this in my regular partnership, and I have to
say, I did not yet missed playing it, and this is true for a couple of high tech
convetions.
