My KQJx is so likely to be opposite a stiff in hand 1 which increases the chance that 5D is not safe, and hurts our chances for slam. I would just pass.

Hand 2 I bid 4C, what else? I have a great hand for hearts and if partner wants to try for slam I'll be happy to hear it.

What JLOGIC says. I must be missing the point on the second, what else do you want me to bid?

IMO 4 = 10, 5 = 9, _P = 7, 4N = 5. assuming 4 is more constructive than 5.
5 may be safer than 3N. AKxx x AQTxx ATx
and slams are still in the picture. Axxx A ATxxxx Ax
These are (sub?) minimum 2 rebids,
Harder at Match-pointed pairs when even 4 would be a contender.

3N is awful. It will miss heart slams very often when they are available. At least pass gives us the upside of 800 against our game.

Pard just plowed it to slam on the 1st. I get 4N. I don't get 4 (kc). I held AQxx A A98x AJTx.

I actually passed the 2nd and reaped a bonanza. Pard found a reopening x on AKx KQJxxxx J xx (?!). and we got 1100. Not bragging; more curious if my action was reasonable.

As you can see I didn't think of pass on the second. It certainly worked well here.

I agree with the waterman, but in teh second pass is a decent option (as history shows) with top tricks all around and a slowy one in clubs.
