This is a minor complaint, but it has fooled me on many occasions. When presenting diagrams with just dummy and one defensive hand shown, it is common that the defensive hand is presented on the "wrong side" of the dummy. For example this thread and this one both have the South hand "misoriented" with respect to the West hand. Would it be possible to have the bug causing this fixed?

In both of those examples, West is above and to the left of South, which is exactly how they should be. Maybe you think it would be easier to read if the auction was shown in the bottom left corner (outside of the table) instead of in the top right corner, which would be the playing area?

Please correct me if I'm wrong (I'm working on very little sleep), but South plays and bids before West, and so West should be Left Hand Opponent of South. In these diagrams, it appears that West is the RHO of South. What I'd propose is that South's hand should be in the Lower Left corner, and West's hand in the Upper Right corner (I don't care much where the green and bidding are presented, but I imagine it'd be best if the bidding were in the Upper Left corner).

You should get some sleep. As you can see, West is above and to the left of South. It sounds like you are imagining that the playing area is the bottom left corner of the two-seat diagram, but it's actually the top right corner.

Ah, yes. I understand our disagreement about the display now. While West is "above and to the left" of South when South is declaring (or when South is the bottom), I usually think of declarer as the bottom (as do most books and rotated columns). In the cases I presented declarer is East. In these cases, West would be above and to the right of South (when we imagine declarer to be at the bottom). I guess this is less of a "bug," but rather a personal thought of how to display defensive hands--I usually prefer dummy to be "up". In that case, the presented hands are "wrong." If instead we always think of South as the "bottom" then these displays are correct.

The first few times I saw these defensive arrangements I had a few problems with them also. I think you've got it right that it has to do with the location of the auction table.

In the web version of BBO the auction is in the top right corner, in the windows version it can be placed there ( i don't recall if that is the default, or not. In either case, it is neatly wedged between N and E, and since there are several other non-descript green patches on the screen, it is the auction box that serves as the reference for the eye.

Furthermore, since there is only one quadrant green, that naturally draws the eye to where the cards should be played, felt of the table, right?

My thought would be that the table should be green and that the auction should be outside of the table, as it is in BBO, but I suspect that this is probably more trouble than it is worth for the programmers.

This is a pretty interesting observation. Handviewer diagram when viewed in defense mode does look a bit strange to those unfamiliar with the way they look.

It is now on the list of things that can be improved, but is not a high priority item.
