Playing some basic version of 2/1 or standard:
1d=(2h)=x=p
2nt?
What is the general strength box/range here for 2nt? Is 2nt forcing? Are all responder rebids forcing?

2NT is not forcing, 12-14hcp and doesn't promise heart stopper.
There is no other bid available with say: Kxx xxx AQxx ATx and even with 2-3-4-4 it's imo better to bid 2NT.
H stopper isn't much of a problem because you rarely get dealt 9xx or lower and if you have any honor , even Tx it's better to play 2NT from your hand (this is however kinda advanced reasoning/bidding and some traditionalists may not like it).

I'd be more likely to bid 2♠ with that hand
It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.

2NT shows a weak NT and is non-forcing.
Responder's rebids - 3D is non-forcing; other bids by agreement (depends if you are playing negative free bids or not)

ok i guess people might rebid 3nt with this one, if 2nt is a wk nt.

I posted this because a Vanderbilt player suggested something I had not heard before.
Play 2nt rebid here as "forcing".

I wanted to add a bit more to this thread discussion so I quote from an email:
"I think this is one of the most misunderstood auctions in bridge. I don't generally like playing 2N in any case, but I do not particularly want to do it on 11-13 opposite a 8-9 point hand. If we open with a one bid, and the next player makes a two-level overcall, responder must be prepared for a 2N rebid. It is forcing, simply announcing notrump as a viable strain. Responder can raise to 3N, if their intent was to find out if opener had a stopper. Otherwise they can retreat to opener's suit, or bid their own suit. As I mentioned, they must be prepared. Opener therefore does not have to have a balanced 11-13 point hand. They may be unbalanced, and they may have a very good hand. 2N may be the only viable bid they can make."

I think I agree with that e-mail - if you're making a neg X at the 2 level, you need to be ready for 2NT from opener. So 2NT could be anything from 11 to 14/15 HCP here, and opener has to jump to 3NT with more (which is a bit ugly). Consider also what opener is meant to do with AQx xxxx KQJ10x A - no clear 2nd bid, so maybe agree to play 2NT as artificial and F1?
