This phrase got me thinking.

For many people what happens today or tomorrow is more important than what happened yesterday.
They tend to lose patience with those who wish to dwell on what or why happened yesterday. For instance in sports they want to win today, not dwell on why they lost yesterday at the cost of today, or tomorrow.

OTOH what happened yesterday is more important to many than what happens today.

that's probably true... what happened yesterday is done, just take what you can from it and move on

Since your post was written today, I'll wait until tomorrow to judge its importance from a yesterday's perspective. This approach also allows folks to judge today my future post from the tomorrow perspective.

It does make a difference about what one means by "what happened yesterday is done". If it is "it happened, there isn't anything we can do about it except not do it again, but we're not going to investigate/indict/prosecute those who did it before", then that's bad, because the implication of what we're doing *today* is "we'll let you get away with the stuff you got away with so far, because we expect you to offer us the same 'get out of jail free' card when it comes around to us" as opposed to "we're not doing it, or anything like it again".

If it is "what's done is done, we can't afford to waste time wishing that if we had done such and so, we'd be in a better place today, we need to do the best we can with what we have left ourselves", then there is definitely something to it. You're in a bad contract? You, or partner, could have done much better? Do your best in the bad contract anyway rather than griping about what could have been or throwing it away in the play as well.

This expression makes me puke -- the one in the title. Sorry. Look what it did to Janis.
