West is dealer, vul none

My partner and I clearly misbid this hand as we played in 3NT by S and made 6. (We should have made 7, as the diamond finess is working. Partner got confused on how to handle diamonds after they split 4-0. We even got a gift at trick 1 when the 4 was led and East follows with the 3.) I won't bother to discuss the misbidding, except that I may have started it by opening the North hand. BTW 2/1 GF.

How would you suggest bidding this - opponents are silent. I think the best contract is 6D. NT is vulnerable after a heart lead if the K is wrong.

1d=2c
2d(6)=3d
3s=4h(rkc in d)
4nt(1-4)=5c(q ask)
5s(KS,QD)=6d

Any auction where Opener ever describes having at least 5 diamonds should result in a slam being bid. It is hard to imagine an auction where that doesn't occur. There are many variations, but all roads seem to lead to Rome, actual results notwithstanding.
"Gibberish in, gibberish out. A trial judge, three sets of lawyers, and now three appellate judges cannot agree on what this law means. And we ask police officers, prosecutors, defense lawyers, and citizens to enforce or abide by it? The legislature continues to write unreadable statutes. Gibberish should not be enforced as law."

In the auction:
1D - 2C! ( 2/1 GF ),
Opener's 1st obligation is to rebid a 5+ card Diam suit.
You still have the entire 2-level to find a 4-4 Major fit if one exists.
Now Responder, with no 4 card major, and no 2 quick losers in a side suit, should just
jump to 4D! ( Minorwood ):
1D - 2C!
2D - 4D! and get to 6D as in Mike's auction.

I am happy to see that everyone chose to open 1 as I did. I considered passing at the time because of the possibly worthless Q and J, but I liked my shape and decent suit.

What actually happened was that partner bid 3NT, which was a gross underbid by our methods as it showed only 13-15 HCP. I had a clear pass if that was partner's hand.

1 - 2
2 - 3
...
Seems like a normal start, where 2 shows 5+ and 3 is forcing. The rest is easy and depends on your slam bidding methods.
