1D and then hearts as high as necessary.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

1, opening this 1 is too much of a distortion, and passing seems pointless.

I'd prefer to overstate my hand by a bit here.

the choices of plans are:

---1H, D, D (distortion)
---1D, H, H (heading for the moon)
---1D, H, D (probably will miss 5-3 heart fit)

All ugly. Would probably try the third plan, and hope something good happens to disrupt it.

Fourth possible plan:
---1D, D, D (may miss heart fit but will not have a disaster)

It may seem strange, but a mentor claims that no less than Dano DeFalco told him "If you have a seven card suit then you have a one-suited hand" and stuck to it even for 7-6 examples with no strength in the seven bagger and a strong 6 card suit. I wish I could offer more than a third hand attribution.
You must know the rules well - so that you may break them wisely!

If you make a bid, LHO bids 4 and partner doubles, back to you.

My first instinct is to open 5D. My second (more sane) choice however is 1D and after 4S-dbl, I will bid 4NT.

I open 1D. After 4S dbl pass I bid 4NT, and pull 5C to 5D showing the reds.
