serious UI situation at the club

The player who bid 5C is an A pro, playing with a client, who hesitates often. Is 5C a reasonable call?

No. While there may be hands that might pass and then act this certainly isn't one of them.

I'm not sure there is a LA other than pass, but any call but pass has to be indicated by the tank and pass certainly seems LA to me, so I'd roll back to 4 if that scores better for E/W.

It seems obvious to roll back to 4.

As to whether the call is reasonable:

I'm sure there are situations where I'd bid it. (Certain type of opponents, making the 4 bid with a certain demeanor.) Whether that makes it reasonable or not, is not for me to judge.

As a TD I would be very hesitant to give a PP or the like. (But us Europeans don't go for the blood as much as I believe ACBL'ers do.)

the UI suggests double more than 5 but still pass is the LA that should be taken.

5 can be a reasonable call if the guy was walking the dog. Any conclusion without knowing his hand and just looking at auction is just a guess here.

I dunno what others meant by saying "should be rolled back to 4" but i doubt TD has the right to roll back any bid. He can adjust later if he believes LA was to pass over 4. If he decides to adjust later, i dont know ACBL but EBL and WBF has no sense of humour about using the UI. Pair or if it is a teammatch his team may get ethics penalty for that (arround 2 VP if i am not wrong unless it is changed )

I agree that 5C is not a reasonable call. I would assess a procedural penalty.

Definitely not reasonable.

Seldom would I issue a procedural penalty. If this was deliberate unless this was a very inexperienced and naive player this is not a matter of procedure it is much more serious. We are told it was an "A pro".

Sadly i think there are too many players who are willing to take advantage in similar situations especially against weaker opponents.

*** Dammit partner, don't do that.! ***
After game raise this 5C looks much more
appealing than immediate action.
I want to be free of UI in making this bid.
Now I don't think any TD/committee is going to see the merits,
even with the actual results of 5C showing.
