I have a question about the ACBL Mid Chart.
If the method explicitly fits one of the descriptions under the "Allowed" section, and dosn't contain anything from the "Disallowed" section, then do you still have to get some sort of special approval for a system?

sorry, answered my own question. Yes, you do have to get special approval...
I am planning to submit something. Wish me luck, 'cause i've heard it's near impossible to get approval!

I'm surprised
Everything under the Allowed section either (i) does not require a written defence to be provided (items 1-5) or (ii) an appropriate defence already exists in the Defense Database (items 6-20).
If your method does indeed fit one of the descriptions under the "Allowed" section then I'd expect you not to require special approval.
It is only new methods that need approval. An important part of the approval process is an appropriate, detailed and short written defence. I believe many fail in this respect.

Apparently I was referencing a bad source, because they only had 11 entries under the "allowed" section...
http://www.bridgehan...L_Mid_Chart.htm
This website had "any opening call promising 4 or more cards in a known suit" as legal, unless it violated one of these 2 rules from the "disallowed" section, which were
6. Opening one-bids which by partnership agreement could show less than 8 HCP. (Not applicable to a psych.)
8. Any weak opening bid which promises an unknown suit may not include as the unknown suit the suit named (the suit opened).
Bad source, apparently.
The method I am trying to get approval for is not explicitly listed on the midchart on acbl.org
I guess googling "ACBL Midchart" is a bad way to do research...

BTW
Last I heard, the ACBL indicated that they were not considering any new submissions for suggested defenses.
At some point in time, the ACBL would complete a review of the effectiveness of the existing system at which point they may (or may not) approve additional defenses.
This was quite some time ago. Said internal review might be complete by now.
