I didn't save the hand, but the auction started (with me opening)
1♥-2♥
2♠(SSGT)-2NT(where's the shortness?)
3♥(short ♠)-3NT
The explanation of 3NT included "likely stop in S". Its spades were 3 small. Since I was bidding on shape, not high card strength, I knew we couldn't be making game without ruffs so I pulled to 4♥. But what was it thinking?

Bidding 3NT with known unstopped suit

It doesn't even say "likely"; it says "partial". (1) A partial stopper is not adequate for bidding 3NT opposite known shortness, and (2) 965 does not qualify as a partial stopper.

No doubt this is also why the robots like pulling our 3NT bids into some ridiculous 5-2 fit... because it thinks our stoppers are as nonexistent as its own...

When GIB opens and you make a 2/1 response, does it seem like GIB almost always rebids its 5-card suit, even when it has stoppers in the other suits? What does it need to rebid 2NT, double stoppers everywhere?
