Problem is:
I I reveice Japanese characters flash bbo starts to use a lot of cpu all the time while frames take many seconds to render. I noticed problem when I was playing in BBO japan tournament. Same time firefox eats a lot of memory (from ~200M to ~800M).
Characters that caused the problem showed up as squares (missing from my font) instead of Japanese glyps.
More details:
I'm running 32bit Debian Linux with Flash 10.1.85.3.
My locale is set to en_US.UTF-8.
I'm now testing if upgrade to 10.1.102.65 will fix the problem.

There have been a lot of troubles relating Japanese characters and not all of them have been fixed yet.
I have been using the download version of BBO.
At first, some of the Japanese characters were not correctly displayed. Then no Japanese characters could be used and then they became abe to be used. Now perhaps all the Japanese characters are rightly displayed in chatt. But not in alert explanation box or automatical messages or tournament explanations.
Even now, some of the characters in the alert explanation box cause the break-down of the talbe.
The web version of BBO could not send Japanese to the table at first. But now that is fixed.
The troubles have been gradually fixed but it takes a long time.
For now, we need to avoid the the trouble by not making the scene of the trouble.
Take care not to put in the alert explanatin box the characters except alphabets and numerals.
Do not play in the tournaments where they use characters not in 7-bit ASCII code.
All we can do is to report the trouble to BBO support and wait patiently for them to fix it.

Suokko - it seems strange to me that a font-related problem would have such a dramatic impact on the BBO web-client's performance.
It also seems strange to me that a presumably Japanese person (you!) would have a version of the Arial font installed that is not able to render all possible Japanese characters.
If both of those things are true, then I suggest you try finding a better version of the Arial font and install it.
But before you do that, you might want to try running the web-client in English and see if you experience the same problems. You should still be able to see Japanese characters in chat if you do this. Here is a link you can use:
Link to BBO home page that will force web-client to use English
Click the yellow "play bridge now" link on that page to launch the web-client in English.
oneclub77 is correct that there are various places other than chat where Japanese characters entered using the Windows client will not appear properly in the web-client, but as I said above it is hard for me to imagine that this should impact performance so dramatically.
Sorry I don't have any immediate answers for you. If you try the English version or a new font, please let me know the results.
