I usually have these fits of creativeness at the table which often go wrong. This idea wasn't created by me but I sort of twisted from something I read regarding this situation:

Where 2NT asks opener to bid 3♣, which responder will pass or pull to 3♦, all with weak hands.

The thing is that you 'know' your partner has diamonds BUT if he had clubs you'd like to invite him and so you bid 3♦, which partner will pass with the suit or remove to 4♣ or 5♣, depending on his hand.

I've done this a lot, probably without the right hand and almost always have gotten an ill result.

Yesterday I held:

I was dealer and passed, and so did my LHO. My partner opened 2♥ (5♥'s and a minor), pass on my right and I bid...

3♦

All pass. Guess what dummy held...

On the second hand, shouldn't 2NT ask partner to bid his minor? Then I'd know what was in his hand instead of having to guess...

Looks like someone needs to have an agreement to play Paradox type continuations in these auctions.

I happen to like them - in the 1N-2N case I might even do it without discussing it, figuring there could be no other reasonable interpretation of 3D - but a lot of people are in the mindset of "ask which suit if you don't know which suit I have; if you bid a suit I expect it's a long suit" rather than liking pass or correct. It's a fruitful area for meta-agreement with a regular partner.
