Although maybe 4 has appeal at matchpoints as the K affords some protection against a force even if the spade support is weak.

2-card discrepancy is too much for me: 5

I tend to think "which bid would I least be upset if I was wrong" in times like this. I find it much more effective than "which bid is right". i.e. if I bid 5 and it was right to bid 4 I would shrug, but vice-versa I would feel like I'd bent normality and would hope partner would be understanding. Perhaps that's just my weird mind though.

I wonder:
Should 4 be forcing here?
I would take 4 as forcing and would consider a 4 bid.

"as the ♥K affords some protection against a force" what does this mean Wayne?

What Wayne means is that in 4, the K acts as a "stopper", preventing them from easily shortening your trumps in hand.

The main problem with 4 is that you may get tapped out before you can establish your Club suit. I think I would bid 4 at MPs, however I believe this is a very clear 5 call at IMPs.

The K should hopefully give us just enough tempo to get everything done, however I will be ready to apologize to partner if this is the wrong decision... Matchpoints do awful things to people

4. Partner is either 6-5 with good suits or 5-5 with great suits. In either case I am not worried about the tap.

I was taught early on to bid to win the post mortem and if partner wasn't looking for a club raise, why did he jump in them?

However, I could hardly have more and would cue 4 on the way to 5 or 6. I know, 4 should be a cue but I'm not going to put pard on the spot. No doubt pard will tank over this barring me, place the final contract and I win the post mortem.

Don't try to win the post-mortem. But faced with a choice that you can't otherwise resolve, make the bid that won't *lose* the post-mortem. Not to win it if it was wrong, of course...

do people play 4H here as COG, and if you had that would you bid that? or would that suggest 2-3 in the blacks? I suspect with 2-3 you should always just bid 6s as partner is somewhat likely to be 6-5 (he should not canape if strong i think). Still, if i had COG avaliable i might bid that: if partner has say,

AKQTxx
x
x
AKJxx

4s might have better play. And this is not that unlikely IMO.

Yeah 4 should be choice of game IMHO and I bid that. Let partner answer the OP question :)

Koen: 4 is not forcing. 1 was non-forcing so partner can't force until I have shown some life.

4 is NF, I want to let partner decide between 4 and 5, so 4 seems the best bid here.
