We play that 1NT shows a 4 card major and 5 card minor. What would you do with this hand after a 1 opening on your right?
Scoring: IMP

Well, you could fudge a bit and bid 1NT anyway. Your suit is certainly good enough for that. But partner will undoubtedly believe your major is hearts, not spades. That is obviously bad.

A Takeout Double is out as well for the same reasons.

Bidding 2 looks attractive. Sure, it's not a 5 card suit, but 4 card suits get no better. Plus, you have the strength and distribution to introduce the clubs at the three level. Unless a 2 overcall means something else in Polish Club?

I don't get in the auction, I have to pass this time and see what comes back.

Pass looks good to me even if 1NT would be natural.

When I play the Canadian "Polish NT overcall", if I bid 1NT over 1S, I have "4 hearts and a longer minor". Partly, that's to ensure that it's ACBL GCC legal, but mostly, it makes no sense to play it any other way.

Pass.

Polish bidding boxes don't have any pass cards in them.

Yes, they do - that's how they show their *good* opening hands (13+ :-)

Well, you cannot bid a Polish 1NT with this, because it shows Hearts over a S opening. You have 2 choices - pass and 1NT. I rate them in that order.

I admit 2 is tempting. But I do pass.

Hi,

1NT is out, 1NT over a 1M opening, showes 4 card in the OTHER major (*)
and a 5 card minor, and lots of players limit the call to 9-15HCP.

Your options are Pass, Pass, .... lets think, Pass.

There will be a 2nd round of bidding, and than you may be able to bid
2NT, a delayed 2NT can be 4-4 in the minors.
We play a direct 2NT at this vulnerability as 5-4, but most req. 5-5, and
it does not matter, you have 4-4 anyway.

With kind regards
Marlowe

PS: (*) Just read some comment, that seems to imply, that 1NT could show
4 cards in the bid major, assuming this makes sense, if they have shown 5
cards in the suit, which is highly unlikely (mildly speaking), do I really want to
introduce this 4 card suit?
With kind regards
