Pard has some 6-4 with lots of honors in the minors (didn't dbl their 4♥). It seems like an easy make for opps, so we should act.

4NT if pard is paying attention, 5♣ otherwise.

4NT pick a minor is ideal. But if pard doesn't get this, 5♣ is marginally more surviable to a bad break.

IMO 5♣ = 10, 5♦ = 9, 4N= 5, _P =3.
Five of a minor should be a good sacrifice although there is a slight danger that opponents wake up and bid a slam.

I am not sure, I would have bid 1D, but it did turn out ok,
and 1D is certainly not wrong.
I also agree with pass and pass, and I will pass a 3rd time.

It was also my feeling that I had said enough with 1♦ but the first 2 answers to this post (before seeing both hands) seem to disagree with it.
In IMPs I would probably have bid 5♦ anyway because of the ♣ support.

Having seen your p hand, I prefer 4D to 4C, 4D showes the 6-5
shape, 4C does not.
I am not sure I will raise 4D to 5D, but at least the chances are higher.

Why did partner not ask for keycards immediately over the 1♦ response? He is the one who knows he has solid clubs, and he also knows he doesn't want to defend 4M.

Unfortunately, according to the rules, partner gets to bid his own hand

Not that this has anything to do with partner's actual hand, but I think it's quite clear for us to bid 5♣ here. We have xxx of clubs and no reason to think we can beat them. And also no reason to offer diamonds, if partner wanted to play in diamonds opposite a 4 card suit he would have no reason to bid 4♣.
