Scoring: MP

Submitted by: Hanoi5

Bidding script: EW don't bid

Reaching a game with a Moysian fit [sic] when it is right is one
of the traits of good bidding pairs. The lack of a stopper in the unbid Major for 3NT and of sufficient strength for the level of 5 should be the hints the pairs need to reach the ‘right’ spot. 4S, 10; 3S, 7; 3D, 6; 4D, 5; 5D, 3; 3C, 2; 3NT/4C, 1."

Normal warning, these might not be the scores I assigned. :D

First and foremost, a 5-2 fit is not a Moysian...

I liked the auction that Free and I had

Free opened 1S with the South hand showing an unbalanced hand with 4+ Diamonds and (typically) denying a 4 card major.

I bid 2, showing 5+ Spades. Free rebid 2 promising xxx or Hx in Spades.

At this point in time, I bid 3 showing concentrated values in the pointy suits and we quickly landed in 4

I thought Moysian referred to 7-card fits. Point taken.

Also, he rates to not have a heart void when he leads the 3.

I thought our sequence was just right: 1D (potential canape) - 1S; 2C (canape realized) - 3D (which we play as forcing, and which made things easy); 3H (grope) - 3S (no help in hearts, but good spades); 4S.

I picked a bad time to open 1NT. It must be wrong in a bidding contest, not sure what I was thinking. We ended in 4NT.

I find the several comments from jdonn and JLOGIC about how to, and how not to, bid in a bidding contest to be very interesting. We thought the idea was to bid as we would in real life, but I can see the other point of view. Maybe next year we'll try a different strategy.

And incidentally, the postmortems are as much fun as the contest itself.

heh the hand I operated on was opening 3C on board 1 and if I had opened 4C we would easily find 7, so I think bidding normal is a good idea!

Obviously jdonn has to operate much more since he's playing with gib, in fact hes bidding kind of normal for him+gib lol.

This hand our auction was:

1C 1S
1N 2D
3D 3S
4C 4D
4S

I think. My third bid I could bid 3H maybe which should be a punt, but from my hand I could tell a 5-2 spade fit would be right even opposite one heart stopper most of the time so I just bid 3S.

We didn't do any serious bidding contest bidding, except that you want to go slower and keep alternative contracts in mind. For example if it goes 1D - 1S - 2S and in real life you would just bid 4S, I would not often do that in a bidding contest.
and the result can be plotted on a graph.

Yeah hard to say how I would bid with gib in real life so I just try to win. Plus if I wasn't trying to win I would probably not still be in the contest!

Partner opened 1NT, then
1NT 2
2 3
4 4
4 pass
not sure we really knew what we were doing with the last 3 bids. Except that neither of us cued hearts so 4 had to be a stopping point

I was actually going to go with Hanoi's scores here, but the field did find 4 without much problem, so I lowered the score for that. I upped 5 and 3NT a point based on the results of the biddin in the contest.
