North's 2♣ bid is explained as "Free bid; new suit -- 4+C; 6-10 total points". Does that hand really qualify as 6-10 total points? 3♣ is "5+C; 6-10 total points", so I guess that's his story and he's sticking to it.

5♣ is explained as "5+C; 10+ HCP; 10- total points; 6+ relay points." What quirk of logic caused North GIB to try to sign off in 3♣ but then jump to 5♣ after being saved by West GIB?

That would make 2♣ and 3♣ underbids, not overbids.

GIB adds much more for a void when the opponents bid and raise it. West's delayed diamond raise is what caused it to upgrade from a signoff to a game force.
