Scoring: MP

P and I play strong jump shifts over 1m, and coasted to the grand after he opened 1. I was wondering, tho, what would be a good sequence for reaching it if you don't play strong jump shifts here? thx, :P

South can just bid 7H after 5N (or 5S), and then north will convert to 7N obvously.

I'd rather bid 2 then 3 but auction is pretty much the same as littlekid described.

Also I would bid 4 and not 3 wich looks like a missfit bid.

I was going to ask if that 3 bid is a minisplinter agreeing hearts, because I'm not sure I would take it that way.

Anyway, I agree with Fluffy's implied auction, except that I would bid 1-2-3, not 1-2-3.

Out of curiousity, how did the Strong Jump auction go? I'm imagining:

1-2!
2!-3
4NT-5
5-7
7NT

That's how my partner and I would bid it, at least.

EDIT: fixed the bidding. Apparently I wasn't thinking clearly.

Out of curiosity, what does 2 show, what is 1-2-3 in your system, and why is partner responding 5 (assuming 4NT is rkc in hearts)?

1d=1h
2c=2s!
3d=3h
4h=4s(rkc in h)
5d(2, deny qh)=5s(specific k ask)
6d(KD, deny kc and ks)=7nt

pretty easy,

The hand is tailor-made for blackwood. Any bidding sequence employing blackwood/rkc should easily reach grand on this one, it doesn't matter you play SJS or not. It will be more interesting to ask: how do you reach grand if you don't play blackwood? :(

Hi,

basically it will be simple, if North starts the RKCB asking,
since he just needs to find 3 cover cards for his 3 loosers.
Since North is also the stronger one, and has a selfsufficent
suit, this will easily be happening.

1D - 1H
2C - 2S (FSF)
3D - 3H
4H - 4NT (...)
... - 7NT

With kind regards
Marlowe

Well you did ask... :)

1D = 10-17, 4+ diamonds, unbal
1H = 10+ relay
1S = 10-13 any (upgrading is possible and merely skips ahead to 2C)
1N = GF relay
2C = 4+ clubs
2D = relay
2H = 5+ diamonds, 4 clubs
2S = relay
3C = 6 diamonds, 0-1 spades
3D = relay
4D = 1=2=6=4, 5 A/K controls (this would be 4C if you upgraded)
7N = can count 13 tricks unless hearts are 4-0

The hand is even more tailor-made for this approach than for Blackwood!

Crap. Typed faster than I thought again. I'll amend my previous post. I changed the 5NT king ask to the 5 queen ask in light of the ammended auction. The responses should still be valid.

And the 2S! bid is a relay, allowing responder to further describe his hand. We have no meaning for the 1-2-3. Partner's next bid will tell me exactly what he holds, so why should I ever not want that information?

Our strong js auction went: 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4nt, etc. we play rkc here is always for the js suit.

The hand was played in a small and weakish club game and only 2 of 6 pairs bid the grand. Don't really know why they missed it, as weaker pairs will often barge into blackwood, which works perfectly on this hand. I guess I was wondering where the auction might have gotten off track, but who knows. :D

Was everyone at least in game?
