My partner held this hand as South.
Am I going mad, or is his bid obvious?

Also, the hand I held that doubled is hidden below. Would you double with that? If not, what's the smallest improvement you'd have to make in order to double? Does your answer change if S was dealer and passed?

IMO close between 4♠ and 5♦, I think I'd pick 5♦ at IMPs but this is MPs.

Your hand close between 4♠ and double, I prefer 4♠.

Why would you ever bid 5D? Surely if you don't bid 4S for some reason you should bid 4N.

Anyways, obvious 4S imo.

What would opener's 4♠ (instead of X) show? Does it have to be 5-6 in ♠/♦?
