3N made ok, I was wondering if there was any merit in keeping the information regarding our shape hidden and bidding 3N directly since I have a weak hand.

A 4-4 heart fit or 5-3 spade fit will still usually be better, you have a worthless doubleton and good trumps (for either suit). Keep it simple.

Ok, thanks.

District 19 now has a dealing machine, no shuffling and dealing boards for the pairs events, what an improvement. Although, I did hear someone grumble that the 1st round hands were not "sorted" as usual. We were also using bridgemate scoring machines so no analyzing of the traveller after each board. I found the game ran faster and more efficiently and of course there was minimal waiting for the results at the end of the round. Fantastic.

We finished well overall on Wednesday, despite my partner having to drag me through the last 5 rounds, having not slept the night before I was falling asleep at the table. Can anyone tell me how they wind down and are able to sleep when playing in these tournaments? Other than using alcohol as a sleeping aid.

Puppet, since you have a 4432 distribution, it will usually be better to play in a Major fit. 4-4♥ with ruffing value, or 5-3♠ with ruffing value in the short hand.

I may be the only one who does this, but after dealing hands using hand records and receiving boards for the first round after others have dealt using hand records, i shuffle my hand before i look at it, because I don't want anyone to watch me sort my hand, since they know the hand is already in order and i'm likely either to move entire suits at one time or to move honors one at a time to their desired location.
