Over Opp's bid - & I have too big a hand / or suit to just overcall - pard-BOT bids it's suit; I then bid my suit AND EVERY TIME, REPEAT EVERY TIME, pard-BOT will either re-bid it's suit or bid a new suit.

Most of the time - I'm competing to take the contract NOT AT GAME LEVEL if opp's are bidding. When I insist on my suit; pard-BOT take me to game if not invitation of 5 level.

PLEASE can this be addressed? ? ? It's in ALL the BEGINNERS bridge classes!

MsPetey: This is at least the third time you have made this complaint. But if you do not tell anyone what hand it happened on, no one can diagnose the problem. If you either provide links to the hands, or specify the tournament and hand number with the problem, the developers will be able to address your concerns.

I don't know if this is one of the hands MsPetey is complaining about, but it might be and clearly something went wrong. Hmmm... I can't make a link; maybe someone else can. It's tournament #2931, hand #9.

Gib's bidding over takeout doubles is very messy. I think the constraint is very wrong for now. Basically, when you make a takeout double, gib thinks that you must hold at least 3 cards in unbid suits and bids according to that. So when you hold a very strong one suiter and double first, be prepared to find gib bid another suit all the way to 5 or 6 levels.

I know what mspetey is saying, over takeout we're used to rebidding our suit showing a very strong hand but gib def. doesn't accept it. Takeout means takeout to him.

In which case, Mspetey, until GIB is coded to recognise this as something else, you need to conform to GIB if you want a better result.

How true - when playing with a partner it pay to play partners system!

But, in respect of doubling first with a strong one-suited hand, GIB does not seem to play "bridge as we know it"!

As I have said before, in some ways GIB is so much more human than an emotional pick-up rubber bridge partner that one quickly learns to manage to become profitable.

Found this out tonight. I made a dubious double of 1 club holding something like:

♥ -
♦ KQJ
♣ Kxx

You can guess where this is going. The following bidding ensues:

1♣ X P 4♥
P 4♠ P 5♥
P 5♠ P 6♥
P 6♠ P 7♥
P 7♠ P P
P

Dummy had KTxxx in hearts. As well as having Kx in spades, the diamond ace, and QJx in clubs. 7♠ was off one.

Why you would double with that is beyond sense? That you have 16 HCP is irrelevant. 4S or 1S are equallly reasonable bids (depends on what is expected by GIB bidding) You needn't worry about the bidding dying at 1S- its so unlikely. Partner will raise or opponents will intervene.

Well, I already referred to the double as dubious. The general idea was to get information from GIB prior to setting the contract. We see how well that worked.

Pretty much, I got what I deserved. (Well, maybe I deserved off four doubled.)

The point is that GIB doesn't ever get the GOSH (good one-suited hand) message after a takeout double; GIB's high level heart bids weren't cue-bids for spades. Doesn't matter whether you agree with the double in this case, this example shows the problem.

A GOSH (good one sited hand) that most bridge players understand is shown by a double of opponents suit opening and a subsequent bid or even jump bid of the good suit is not in GIB's vocabulary.

I accept this and just simply overcall at lowest level or gamble 4 of major directly on a wider range of hands when playing with GIB than would with all but the ramkest palooka.

Surely it would not be beyond Bridgebase programming skills to enable GIB to unlearn its initial understanding of tolerance for the three other suits when meeting a GOSH bid by partner.

But correcting this commonly occurring and basic bidding mistake is not sufficient - you need to tell players about the change in GIB skills or the change will not have much value.

So I asking for two high priority changes:

- a clear indication of the release of GIB and am accessible list of recent bug fixes,
- the ability to recognise a GOSH.

The other day I doubled and jumped in my suit to show a good hand with a 6+ card suit. GIB never raised me despite having 3-card support.
