Scoring: MP

1D on your left
2C from partner
4H on your right
back to partner who doubles
you bid 4S
5H on your left
back to you...X, pass or 5S?

11 tricks in 5S now seems a low percentage. Partner needed to bid 5S, not me. I have an Ace so I double.

What do we give partner?

Akxx,x,xx,AKQxxx? Can he hold much less? And 6 Spade is on a 2-1 break.
Make it Kxxx, x,xxx,AQjxx and 11 tricks still can be made and this is surely no double of 4 Heart.

I see a big fit with them and a big double fit for us. There is no way I would pass or double.

I think I settle just for 5 Spade.
Kind Regards

Roland

Wouldn't partner Dbl 5 with such a hand?

I think pass and double are pretty crazy!

So AKx KTx x KQJ876 or similar is a clear pass of 4H?
(QTxxxx x xxxx xx would make a 4s call pretty nice, if a X was the choice.)

I have no idea- but he needs less for 5 Spade.

5 seems easy. The contract is even rightsided.

More afraid to miss 6 than 5S go down.
From Psych "I mean, Gus and I never see eye-to-eye on work stuff.
For instance, he doesn't like being used as a human shield when we're being shot at.
I happen to think it's a very noble way to meet one's maker, especially for a guy like him.
Bottom line is we never let that difference of opinion interfere with anything."

It's obvious right either to bid or to double; I don't believe 5H both makes and we go for more than 500. I only pass if this is a qualification for something and an average-ish board will do for us.

I bid 5S. But I may be influenced by too much play at aggregate where it's obviously right to bid.

I think partner would double 5 if he had a highly defensive hand (for example having 2 spades), the honnor allocation is bad, but the only excuse for 5 over 5 is double fit, and here we have 2* 9+ card fits!, so I'd go for 5.

I don't think partner can have a doubleton spade. I thought he made a takeout double of 4H!
Did I misread the auction??

If he is strong enough to double 4H with 2236 for takeout, he is strong enough to double 5H for penalty.
