After bid
1S,-,-,X,2C,2H,2S,3H,3S,4H,X
♠AKJ
♥AQxx
♦Qxxxx
♣x
Now do you run to 5D or stay.

The alternatives seem to be to sit back and expect 590 or more, or to try for 880 which has the risk that somebody might run and we collect only 300 or so against 4♠X. Really, introducing a ratty 5 card suit at the 5 level is not an option.
BTW, it wouldn't hurt to spend 10 seconds in each new thread to reproduce the hand.
(Edit, I see OP has the hand now, thanks)

As you 5D is solid, Easier from West but solid none the less. 4H has no chance as far as I can see.

LOL
Do not underestimate the power of the dark side. Or the ninth trumph.

How does he avoid losing a diamond and three hearts, if the defence plays clubs at every opportunity?

you only ruff twice on AQxx hand, so you end up with bare ♥Q no endplay possible.
