3. 1
♥ is ambiguous. It could be a big balanced hand, or natural with hearts. If it is natural, it could have a longer outside suit.
4. 1
♠ is more or less forced, and denies 0-4 with a 6 card or longer suit.
5. 2
♥ shows 6 or more hearts, or specifically 5 hearts and a 4 card minor (with 5332's, we rebid NT)
6. 2
♠ shows 4 (+) to 7 with at least 5 spades. It shows a maximum of xx of hearts.
What is your call at Matchpoints?
What I want to know is. what's all this shillyshallying about? In classic precision 2
♠ simply shows the hand you ascribe to your pd, 6 spades and 4-7 points. Ok maybe in your system there's only 5 spades there but that is your problem, not mine. Seems to me the less you tell opps about your hands if they are unlikely to be in game, the better!
As such it's a simple decision, what cards does he need to have to make game?
If he has K or A of
♣, then he cannot have less than 2 spade losers. This is very iffy, and matchpoints you do better making overtricks than risking your neck in iffy games (and slams).
So you pass, QED. At imps and desperate, sure give 4
♠ the old college try.

After not having the bids come up for about a year, we dropped the 2
♥ and 2
♠ calls to show the 6 baggers and 4-7 points. We play that 2
♥ shows a 8-13 4441 (any stiff - opener relays to 2
♠ and responder bids the suit below). 2
♠ shows a balanced 11-13.
I know classic precision contains these calls. It also uses a 13-15 NT, and a 2
♦ call to show exactly a 4414 (collective groan).
I think its a cute hand, and I passed as well. 2
♠ is a tasty little spot opposite: KQxxx, x, xxxx, xxx, but change the diamonds to clubs, and 3
♣ is a little better. Standard pairs will struggle after the start 1
♥-1
♠-3
♣ (?)
Add a stray queen, and 3N looks good. A 6th spade makes 4
♠ look better. The reason I posted the hand is to get viewer's idea about the relative frequency of responder holding these hands versus the more frequent 5 bagger.
Stephen, by the way, keep up the progress on BridgeBrowser; I hear great things about it.
