Scoring: IMP

P P 1S 2D
2H P ?

For the sake of argument, assume that a 2S rebid could be passed.. :-)

For the sake of argument I'll assume a 3 bid can not be passed. :)

Say I bid 3 - partner will not support spades without 3 (is this right?) so unless she has a diamond stopper she'll be endplayed into bidding 3. Now I guess I'd bid 3? But then partner has to decide the strain without knowing anything about my heart support or my diamond stopper.

Partner shouldn't have 3 spades once he bid a non-forcing 2H, so 3S from him shows 2.
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

You don't "live" somewhere because you have exactly one jack more there than in each of the other suits.

but I also have 3 more cards in that suit than any of the others

Given that p is a passed hand, 2S can be passed.

I would go with 3S, which should be forcing.

Nooooooo not 3S!
3 please. Why do we want to play a 6-1 spade fit instead of a 6-2 heart fit with a suit like this one?

Think of it a different way. You already showed 5 spades and 0 of any other suit. So by my count you have 1 extra spade and 7 extra non-spades. So why not focus on the non-spades with a cuebid to show a flexible hand? I mean I just don't get it, if you cuebid then aren't you thrilled with anything partner does, we have a great hand for everything not just a great hand for spades.

Agree jdonn, all this stuff about 'living' somewhere confuses me, why not fish around and find out what partner has instead of insisting upon a strain? The thread title should be a clue...

2NT.
Is weak two of hearts an option for partner to open? If not a solid set of hearts would probably play better in 3NT rather than 4H- he doesn't any other strength. Save 3D for strong hands with xxx

I can't wait to hear the reasons for this!
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.
