cue-bid after Unusual 2NT

I don't have the hand record (I was playing in a series of Robot Rewards, and there's not much time between tourneys), but something approximately like this happened.

3 was explained as showing a good hand with support. But in fact, it had 3 and 4 . Why were we playing in our 8-card fit instead of our 9-card fit? Once it bid 3, I think anything else I could bid was a cue bid in support of , so there was no way to get to clubs.
