There is this very wide highway-ish street that connects Reykjavik and Kopavogur, I think 4 lanes each direction. The direction of this street is N to S almost exactly. So there is a bridge that crosses over this for bikes and pedestrians. There are some barriers on the sides so you don't fall off or something. But the barrier that faces South is only about 1m (3 feet) high and vertical while the other one is about four times as high and leans outward. I am going over this bridge very often and have no idea why it is like this, any ideas?

Maybe the south barriere is lower to make pedestrians enjoy the sunshine?

good question. I don't really know although I think it comes from west usually, i.e. the ocean?
