I like a 5 bid. Asks for a raise if partner holds 2nd round heart control. Not perfect, but about the best option lacking very specific agreements (4 as a big spade hand would be nice here...). I don't blast 6.

Call me a chicken. Just 4S for me.

Yeah, a slam is possible. But the odds are against it with an opener supposedly having 2 defensive tricks, and the risk of 2-2 hearts.

I'd like to explore for it, but most cheap bids are just going to get partner to bid his better minor, and I worry 5S is too high. Easy to be losing one heart and one minor ace, for instance.

only 4 for me also. It sucks that it could be a grand but I don't see any 5 level safety.

He might be. What would you suggest that we do about it?

If he has that, we may have grand and he won't pass 4...

It's ok. I have spades in case partner doesn't have many :) I think the real question Phil was asking was, "What will doubler do with a non-spadish monster?"

If she does anything over 4S, we will be in at least 6S. 2 crummy spades and no heart control seems remote if she bids again -- and especially if she doesn't.
