I opened 1♥ (fourth seat, RvR, not that it's likely to matter) and GIB responded 2♥. I rebid 2NT, which apparently means "Spades -- 5+♥; 3+♠; 2-11 8421HCP in ♠". I meant this to simply be invitational in partner's choice of ♥ and NT. What convention/treatment is this that I can't find in the documentation?

GIB uses two-way game tries.
After a single raise of a major, opener bids the next step to show an undisclosed shortnes. If responder wants to know where the shortness is, he bids the next step, and opener then bids the short suit, or the agreed major if it's one of the steps (there's no ambiguity -- either opener or responder's artificial bid was 2NT).
Other continuations by opener are help suit game tries. After 1♥-2♥, since 2♠ would be the short suit game try, 2NT takes its place as the game try in ♠.
One you've agreed on a major, it's unlikely you'd want to offer NT as a natural contract, so this is a more efficient use of the bid.

Thanks for the explanation, Barry.
Ari/Rain: Can this be included in GIB's system notes?

If GIB plays Help Suit Game Try, the explanation should say HSGT, not LSGT, and should omit the "3+" part.
Why did GIB pick hearts for the game try?
