Suppose you play pretty standard precision, i.e., 1C=16+,1N=13-15.

What is best (or better) follow-up structure after 1D-2C? Do you rebid 2N with any minimum balanced hand. If you rebid 2M, does it promise shape or extra HCP or just 4D+4M?

How light are your 1D openings, and how sound is 1D-2N?

I personally prefer 1D shows good 11, with either shape or quality cards, say

AXXX,XXX,AKXX,XX, I would open with 1D happily. However, I hate opening with KJXX, QXX, KQXX,XX.

1D-2N is invitational, showing 11-12.

In my sys, 1D-2C is abosolutely FG.

One more important thing is what do you do with GF hands with 4M - 5m.
It's kinda easier to plan subsequent auction if you reply 1M with those.

I never do that. I hate it:) and I always bid minor first if I have a good hand and 5m4M.

Meckwell and Greco-Hampson use artificial structure (2 is 11-13bal, 2 is 4card support + shortness) etc. My feeling is that their choice was dictated by playing not forcing to game 2 and 2 (thus having 3/3 bid for weaker hands) because they need a way to bid with both invitational and GF hands and 2 relay after 2 response allows for that. I also feel that in their system you really should bid 1/1 with 5-4M and less than slam invitational hands.
If those are forcing to game in your system I think you can get away with much simpler solution (and not having those "ugly" canape in your structure)

I would go with this basic scheme:

2 = 5+diamonds
2/2 = natural 4+, without 5
2NT = balanced without 4card major
3 = minimum but 4card support unbal
3/3 splinters with support (4+)

Now in sequence:

1 - 2
2 - 2/2 are 3rd suit may be values, may be 4card suit (partner bid 3NT with both 4card support and stopper in 4th suit; raise to 3 without stopper)

If you have game forcing hand with clubs and don't have natural 3rd suit to bid you just bid 3 (this is a problem if you don't play 2 as GF).

1 - 2
2NT - here I feel you may want to use 3/3/3 as shortness with 6;

You have two free bids 3 and 3NT.
You may want to assign 4-4-4-1 max hand to 3NT and 2-2-4-5 hand to 3 for example.
