Opps silent, GIB tries:

1♥-2♣;
2♥-2♠;
3♥-4♣;
4♠-5♣;
5♥???

5♣ was the last making game, 4♥ also makes. (partner is 4-0-2-7, opps have all the diamonds).

Should perhaps the definitions of 4cl/5cl be constrained with more clubs, fewer hearts so that GIB can realize that 5♥ isn't such a great idea?

Sounds like North should have signed off in 5♣ directly over 3♥. No point in giving South a choice of game and then over-ruling him.

North was planning to let South play hearts if South had insisted on 4♥, which happens to outscore 5♣. Also slam wasn't completely out of the picture if South had the right hand.
