Hi,
I need a new wireless router. Which is the best to get? Among the ones that I know exist are D-Link, Linksys, Netgear, Buffalo, and Belkin. I welcome all feedback here. Thanks.

Cisco has the best rep, iirc, but they're pricey. Linksys is good. I had a D-Link. Didn't like it. My last router was a Netgear, and it was great, but it got old, so I got an Airport Extreme, which is the best one I've had. Personal impressions, and the Airport is Apple, and I have a Mac. I don't know how well it works with an all Windows (or Linux) network. I think there's a windows version of the Airport utility, but I'm not sure. The Airport works fine, btw, with my Windows laptop, except it was a pain setting up a secure network, because the laptop is older than dirt and I had to mess around to get the protocols to match up.
No guarantees in any of this - I've known people to have bad experiences with all of D-Link, Netgear, and Linksys, and wouldn't be surprised to hear of bad experiences with the other two.

We have had a D-link WBR-2310 for about a year and a half.
We just run 2 pcs (Vista upgraded to 7 and XP) and a laptop (7) but we have had no issues and no problems.

My experience has been best with LinkSys, but that's just me.
By the way, I think Cisco owns LinkSys.

We have a linksys and have not yet been able to "link" it to my iPad.
Other than that it works fine once you go through the unuser friendly setup.

If you care enough, getting a dd-wrt compatible router (and flashing dd-wrt onto it) is a pretty good bet. It's not going to make your router magically better, but it has a very nice interface with lots of useful features, and the installation process is about as painless as this kind of thing is going to get.
