I don't think this is a serious bug of GIB's to be honest. It is probably in the range of the bid after all isn't it? (9-11 4+C or something along these lines)

Agreed. I guess I'd call it an undesirable feature, which I hope can be somewhere very low on the developers' list of thing to look at, and which maybe other players might want to be aware of.

3C should be fourth choice, as the poll indicated.

Hard to put 2C ahead of it. But practical bridge makes 3C just really ugly. thankful my regular pard is not a robot.

The right bid on this hand really isn't clear at all, IMO. I've heard some very good players who would pass, but these good players also subscribe to the philosophy that the 1♦ opener won't pass. This doesn't put this hand in a good spot at all.

Why that? If we make a free club bid later it looks like we describe our hand as good as possible.

But yes it's certainly not a big problem if GIB bids 3♣ here.

It seems that if pass was right, and 1NT was second ---with club bids far behind--then, 1NT would be the fallback bid if opener runs to a major.

If bidding clubs the first time seemed to be a bad idea, it didn't get any better.

Personally I always disliked 1NT. But even if it was better than club bids before it may be worse than club bids after having passed because we have already transmitted that we have diamonds so we get to give two messages instead of one.

Anyway I certainly don't find this to be a bug either, it's too fine of a judgment to expect to be programmed in even if humans don't find it that difficult (and they were far from in agreement anyway).

We don't consider GIB's 3♣ bid to be a bug here. It's an accurate description of strength and shape, even if it might not be the best possible bid.
