3D on the first and pass the second.

agree...don't understand why these are posted as problems...can't imagine any rational alternative (but I have a limited imagination)

Agree and WTP?

On the first, partner is almost always going to pass or bid 3NT. I have a great dummy for NT and I certainly prefer either of those to defending 3C.

On the second, bidding is going to guarantee a minus score -- if partner has the balance of the missing strength, he will bury me.

But I think these are the same hand. It would be better to post the problem after

3C-P-P-3D
P-?

but I would bid 3H since I wouldn't think we had any assurance of a plus score in 3D, and I think we are pot-committed at this point.

Agree with everybody
  • 3 = 10, _P = 9. Looks like bad break and partner is likely to bid them.
  • _P = 10, _X = 4, 3 = 3. Prefer sound actions in immediate seat.

3D and pass. Would pass the first one if there was table action from RHO I guess.

Thanks for the replies guys, more of a sanity check.

We both agreed that if partner had bid 3D I would now bid 3H.
