just wondering... I left the tourney 18 minutes before it ended because I had 2820 points (which would be quite fine even in best hand tourneys) and gib bid to a vulnerable game which was quite surely going to make. Or do you just play the boards through saying that you payed the entrance fee etc.

In best hand tourneys, 2820 is usually not in the money... For normal it's quite allright, of course
EDIT: Confused with robot race which is what I always play.

i meant to say 2820 would be fine for the first 7 minutes. it would of course be a very bad result for 25
... and I can prove it with my usual, flawless logic.

But since it's not enough to win after 25 minutes, there's no point in leaving so early, since other players will surely overtake you. 18 minutes is plenty of time to make up for them making a vul game.
I think the most I've had on the clock when I let it run out was 4 minutes.

The question was about Random Hand tournaments. In Random Hand I often saw the winner have only ~1000 points. In fact I did win the tourney with the 2820, second place had only 800 points or so.
