It seems like your choices are either 1 or 1NT. I prefer 1NT, because you have stopped, are in the 8-10 HCP range, and are not denying a 4 card major. Anyone who says 2 deserve to be in 4 down 1 or 2, as the diamond values are worthless.

2S bid and this is not close. I could have a zero count for 1S. I am not passing 1D either.

Pass. Second choice is 2, which is clearly better than either 1 or 1NT as a passed hand.

2S. Slight overbid but I still bid 2S. The diamond honors might not be working in a spade contract and shortness in both hearts and clubs might be a problem in a NT contract. Pass is out of the question.

2 seems normal. I could maybe live with 1NT which at least shows some values. 1 is too pessimistic and pass is ridiculous.

2 as the normal bid, or a ridiculous pass if I need some "action".

Given that:

8xxxx

would be good enough to bid 2, the wasted values in diamonds on the actual hand are not worrying me.

2 100, 1N 80, P 50, 2 30, 1 10....my personal rankings.

We can sometimes get back to notrump after we bid spades..but we will almost never get back to spades if we bid notrump. As to hand valuation, it is silly to argue that our diamonds are wasted in spades....I once knew a partner who doubled 1 holding a diamond honour, and unless I am playing against David Berkowitz, who hates leading AK, that may be the lead if I declare spades.

In fact, if pard makes another call after my 2S, he will see 3NT from his CHO.

2 cue (I prefer to have a 5crd suit for 2)

after 2 I rebid 2NT (implying a 4crd suit), giving partner a choice between pass, 3, 3NT or 4
