Scoring: MP

Pass (Pass) 1S (Pass)
2D!

2D is alerted and explained as an artificial four card limit spade raise.

Your call?

( Double is diamonds, 2S is michaels. )

If you pass it goes 2S (Pass) Pass back to you.

What then?

Would your initial call change if double is takeout of spades instead of showing diamonds?

Pass. Double could be a winner if 1 was a psyche, but even then, defending 2 undoubled may be a good score. And if 1 wasn't a psyche (which it probably isn't), anything other than pass is a likely disaster.

This must be a trick question. What exactly are you thinking of bidding and what do you hope to accomplish from it?

So you are willing to defend 2S favorable at matchpoints?

(Serious question)

If no, then would you rather (1) double 2D for spade takeout; (2) wait and double 2S for spade takeout; or (3) something else?

Is this a serious question? I guess it is. Pass is obvious.

Hmm...partner has a lot of spades and about 13-14 HCP. Can't think of any reason to disturb things.

Or maybe not, and opener has a big hand. In that case, I don't want to disturb things.

Pass seems pretty obvious to me.

I don't like defending 2S at MP particularly; but I do like -140 better than -300 or -530, which seem like very likely results if we either play of 4 something our way, or defend 3 of something doubled because partner thinks I might, you know, take a trick. Or -170 instead of -620 or 790!

And if we can, in fact, set spades? We may have a bottom anyway if the field is bidding 1s-pass-3s and then gambling on 4 since it doesn't have game-try sequences available, since we'll be defending one level lower. Our opponents already chose to stay out of 4S, and we can't force them to change their minds; we can just maximize our expectation on the assumption they chose wrong.

3

Obvious to an overbidder.

I am not going to defend 2 at favourable, when they have a 9-card fit, so I might as well bid immidiately. Even withouth being a passed hand, partner should know I was pre-balancing (MP's).

A good partner might even think twice before leading from an unguarded honour in clubs, if she has a good alternative.

As there are many warning signs, I wont attemt to get to the best contract, but rather make it likely, that I get to something playable. Thus 3 and not double (Of 2). (Partner passing that double, would definitely be a nail-biter.)

Furthermore, 3 is also the most difficult to defend against, as they dont have an uncommitting double available.

Pass (for now). Without the spoiler it seems that opener is about 80% likely to bid game so suggesting a club lead is wrong.

If 2S comes back to me I'm going to balance but even this is unclear. Partner will have 5 spades a lot of the time on this auction and if he doesn't they'll probably push to 3S anyway. 2N was my original thought but if pard has a 5332 (which doesn't sound unlikely at all) pard may actually pass 2N or or we will play the 33. My confidence level of a 44 heart fit is also low so I'm opting for 3C.

If the opponents have the hand records they will probably defend but in reality with a likely 54 fit and a slight balance of power they will take the push.

this seems perfect to me, except the part about there being 14 spades in the deck or MI by the opponents (unless it is a 4-cd major system, but then 2-way drury would not be practical).

we are w/r it is mps not bridge, so I would bid my 6 card suit in the pass out seat.
Kind Regards
