♥xxx
♦Txxxx
♣x
Matchpoints, white vs. red. LHO deals and opens:
1♠ - 2♥ - 2♠ - Pass
Pass - 3♥ - Pass - Pass
3♠ - Pass - Pass - ???

Pass.
It is either Pass or double, I would go with Pass.
I guesss my p would have raised earlier, it helps if you have a garbage
raise av., but given that we have Q109x in their suit, I dont mind pass.
Double may well be the winning bid, although it is not unlikely that they
go down -2 anyway.
With kind regards

4♥ I could understand. But I pass.

Robson/Segal would have agreed with pass previous round. As for me, I'm not so sure

Given that I was forced to pass I can now thank my LHO for drawing my attention to the fact I forgot to support sooner. You are getting a S lead and time is on your side, I bid the game I expect to make.

After this exercise it is an easy pass. Of course, if they never lead trumps, you may take 10 tricks, or maybe partner misbids and is stronger then expected.
Seriously, there are hands which make 10 tricks even after a heart lead- but they are rare.

Fortunately partner did not dbl on his nonexisting ♥ tricks.
So I have an easy pass.

Maybe I am missing something major here, but I would not write off 4♥ on the basis.
If partner has just ♥AKJxxxx, ♣Axx with a ♠void or ♦ entry?
even with ♣Kxx, it still has options?
And if partner does not have 3♣, there's a good chance he has enough in ♦?
The crux for me would be "did I believe partner was void in ♠"?

I passed, right or wrong. 3♠ can be made if declarer picks up the singleton diamond king, but it failed by a trick at the table (losing a diamond, a club, a heart, and two spades). Much of the field was in 4♥ making, although best defense should set it a trick (heart lead, followed by an underlead of the spade ace by west after winning the diamond ace to get his partner in for another trump play).

North had a totally normal 4H bid? Twice?

i might bid 4♥ with south at first opportunity if i was on my A game, if i missed that one i would def bid it second round (either to make or to save, bidding just got better now that they bid 3♠).
if RHO bid 3♠ over 3♥, i would always bid 4♥.
