For me I'm big on
Bluegrass: Chris Thile and Trampled by Turtles
Folk: James Taylor
Irish folk and alternative: Old Blind Dogs, etc.
but I listen to a lot, obv. 3EB fan, hip hop, jazz, classical.
I bring it up because I've been feeling a little down lately and was listening to some Julieta Venegas, which really cheered me up. Haven't listened to her really since college, and it just brought back so many happy memories and almost seemed to transport me back to Friday nights past when we were gearing up to go out for the night... so I'm gonna try to get my friends together tonight after my hockey game and get some serious drinking done and fun times... all b/c of one song mostly, really made me feel better!
Similar/more dramatic stories?

You might notice that these are all people who are a bit long in the tooth (at best). I'll be interested in seeing some younger names appear. Eg, my bad but I don't know Julieta Venegas. Probably my wife does.
Getting over the blues with a song from my school days might be tough. How much is that doggie in the window, arf arf, the one with the waggly tail....

Same here, but also enjoy (but listen to less frequently) classical piano, orchestral music, and opera, and also old-time country, gospel, and folk music.

I wish I had cool stories about how music could regulate my feelings and inspire an adventure, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. Perhaps my eclectic tastes have prevented me from forming any kind of connection with any one particular song, artist, style, whatever.

in my own native country there are many
i more or less tend to associate music with the folks who introduced me to it
my father-- to post bossa nova brazilian music
high school classmate-- disco
college friends- blues, classical, reggae
colleague-- trinidadian soca
a former boss-- 1960s calypso
stepchildren-marron5 and norah jones
when i listen to these songs i keep thinking of the people who introduced me to them
the one below i found on you tube-- but one of the best voices i have heard in a long time

Could you make a suggestion or two on the Spanish groups? I might think of buying one for my granddaughter, her Spanish is pretty good and I would be happy to encourage her to keep it that way.

not sure what to recomend, there is a very wide variety to pick from.
For a teenager I guess she'd like pop music, the best pick for that would be "Amaral" she speaks very clearly (kind of what Celine Dion does in english, everyone can understand her lyrics).

For rock music "Heroes del Silencio" would be really great, also very clear speaking, althou they are already retired (About 10 years ago)

Also related its "Mana" who ain't spannish but Mexican, she might apreciate the different accent:

Also a good classics are "Joaquin Sabina", and "Julio Iglesias"
For a harder level, best is today's spannish rock, wich is hard to understand even for spannish people
