It is a very slow game, at least at first. When you join, you build things for a solid week before much really happens. It helps if you can go on line and do something fairly regularily, as there is a lot of time between builds, and when one stops, the next does not start.
I am trying it now. Already been accused of being a spy in my alliance. I am not quite sure what advantage there is in being one, but I am not. I am trying to be helpful (like here), maybe that is a bad thing there....

But I never played it and never plan to.

I have played loads of online games like this. And I even helped devloping velmad (www.velmad.com, it is a turn based 18'th century fleet simulator), I never heard or tried evony, but could give it a try maybe.
I always though that it could be very fun to take a dozen of BBO regulars and jump together in a game like this and dominate it

I got seriously into Travian a few years back.
These games are massive time sinks.
If you want to do well, you need an Alliance numbering in the hundreds...

EVE is the best game ever. Bridge runs a close second. Why play anything else?

yeah travian is pretty much the same, I got in love of spacegame because it started mostly from zero 6 years ago, and it was developed as we were playing, many new features where coming requested by the players and they still do.
SG has a much little crow, each game of 2-4 months has about 30 regular players and 20 non regulars.
I've wasted an insane ammount of time playing it

There's something similar to Evony on Facebook, it's called Kingdoms of Camelot.
Unless explicitly stated, none of my views here can be taken to represent SCBA or any other organizations.

It lead to interesting timing logistics of what project can I build before sleep/bridge/work etc. so that I'm always building and never idle.
But once one gets ones city to near max the lack of a particular scroll prevented me from building lvl 10 buidings and it seemed the game basically died.
