i'm pretty sure at the table id be a wuss and pass. apparently i should reconsider!

This is my Touc on it too. I wouldn't mind Xing so much, but I am not sure I really want partner to jump to 6 in a contested auction

Are you serious? I would be delighted if partner jumped to 6H, because it will make. I have great support - 2 Aces and a void!

great support is not the same as having the hand you said you did and 6 is often based on a lot of guesswork on his part and expecting his partner to actually hold high cards

Partner's hand is:

AKx
xx
Qxxxx
Kxx

If you pass you get to defend 3C, and if you double you get to be dummy in 3NT.  Without knowing the opponents' hands, which position would you prefer to be in?  Yes, I know you'd rather be playing 5D, or even 4S, but that's why people preempt

Passing is very wrong IMO.

This is the kind of hand where neither player should act in live position, but both must reopen.

What do you think partner should bid then? 3?

I would pass.

With the OP hand (direct seat) I would dbl. Maybe 3 is better but since nobody mentions that I suppose not.

yes, 3, and an easy auction to 4. But as always I have to point that my live overcalls are sound and my reopenings are sick to catch up.

That is beyond sick... Also strange, I think my avatar is more fluffy than yours.

I see nothing sick with reopening with 13 when partner could have up to 14 :/

I think it's sick when your 13 is really 12 with your king bid on your left and an awful suit. :) Seriously 3 in a suit like this is the type of bid that goes for huge 4-digit numbers. The chance of having 3NT (which is really the only contract better than a partscore you could possibly be missing) can't be worth it.

Sigh I give up. I guess I'll move to Spain, start doubling everything, and become rich.

Put it this way, I rather X with the first hand than reopen with a poorish 13 and a badly placed K on the second hand.

I understand the notion of reopener adding a K to their hand when considering whether to bid or pass - sometimes I think it is overdone personally.
