IMP, Red vs White
Your RHO passed as dealer and you hold:
83 Q943 3 K108763
Of course you pass and LHO opened 1. Your partner doubled and RHO raised to 2.

Will you bid 3 now? Suppose you decide to pass. The opener rebid 4. 2 passes followed. Will you pass again, double or bid 5?

I am passing throughout. Even if I had the gadged 2NT (over 2) for competing with mediocre hands (when 3 would be encouraging) I don't think this hand qualifies.

I think it does qualify. I would pass if I did not have this gadget. Pass 4H also.

Hi,

Why would I not bid 3C over 2H?
We have a 2NT bid av. to differentiate between a serious 3C and a non
serious 3C bid.
I would bid 3C anyway, but this may just be, because I am used to have
2Nt av.

If I dont bid, I will pass over 4H as well.

With kind regards
Marlowe

3 over 2 pls, should be unanimous.
That's impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition that is the most anyone can give.

No way. Given we're a passed hand 3NT is obvious, suggesting pard a save :)

Also, why didn't I open a weak 2? :P

I'm astonished that anyone would even consider passing over 2.
... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn

Why anyone would even give the slim-ist consideration of passing 2H is just not ill advised. This is a powerful playing hand and I would rate bidding and what would make anyone think that you can not make at least 9 tricks facing a complete minimum t/o dble is a mystery to me, on a good day you may even make a game. On a scale of 1 to 10 passing 2H gets approximately minus 12, a conservative marking.

I kind of considered passing for a second, maybe only because it was posted as a problem though... obv don't pass.
