Scoring: IMP

How do we get to 3NT after North opens 1, 1 overcall? If 2 is not forcing, and 2 promises support, how do you force or ask for a stopper in this situation?

Thanks everyone.

I think most people who play negative freebids also play a jump to 3D as a strong GF 1 suiter so that X then diamonds is more like 5 diamonds and a GF, not sure though I've never played negative freebids.

Yeh, people who play Non forcing freebids use the Neg double with game forcing values and a single suit. When they later bid their suit a game force is established. In this case you might never mention the diamonds.

Double then cue-bid to ask for a stopper.

Of course this means that your double can't promise an unbid major. (Even if that doesnt apply on this auction)

That is pretty much exactly what I play.

What's 3? Is it a Western cue asking pd to bid 3N with a stopper, or a splinter in support of ?

Should def be a splinter, mainly because what hand can make a western cue? You don't know enough about partners hand. I mean with this hand for instance you could easily be cold for 7D or belong in hearts or in 5D or even in clubs or whatever, so you're better off just describing your hand (AKA bidding your suit).

you can either double and have aquahombre's auction, or a faster 3->3NT one.
