Scoring: IMP

After opening 2N and going via puppet stayman you arrive in 3NT.

Opening lead is 8. How would you play?

I would fail at the table after ducking a spade to east and a diamond later to west.

The 8 lead hints AJT behind dummy. But I don't have a decision yet. I'm forced to use a big one at trick 1, and later I play A+. It probably comes down to if I can read the position later and perhaps play for an end play against east.

How do you propose to endplay East?

That's exactly what I did!

They can prevent the endplay by ducking at trick one and then repeatedly playing East's four-card suit.
If we come down to Q75 Kx opposite 9x Qx, and LHO is out of clubs, he's dead - if he has kept only two spades, we set up a spade trick; otherwise we cash the hearts and endplay him. However, if the ending is Q75 K opposite 9x x, he can survive by keeping 2-2 in the majors.

... that would still not be conclusive proof, before someone wants to explain that to me as well as if I was a 5 year-old. - gwnn
